One of the frequent problems faced in automotive fastener industry is cross threading; when a bolt enters a nut under an angle it may destroy the thread of the nut. Another problem could be misalignment during the time of assembly. It occurs when the thread of the bolt and the thread of the nut are not in line when tightening starts. Our innovative self-aligning screw, Nedpoint, can easily prevent these problems
Due to cross-threading and misalignment, forthcoming repairs can be very costly and time-consuming. Cross-threading happens especially in places with limited sight and/or accessibility. Tightening steel bolts into soft metal parts can also cause severe cross threading problems. Also, misalignment happens when the thread of the bolt and the thread of the nut are not in line when tightening starts.
It’s been proven that the misalignment problem can be avoided due to the large concentricity of the Nedpoint ES. The thickness of its point is larger than the root diameter of the thread of the bolt. This results in the bolt to align itself before the thread of the bolt enters the thread of the nut.
Compared to other dog points, the Nedpoint ES turned out to be the best solution for automotive manufacturers as it is able to correct cross-threading angles up to 20 degrees and more and misalignments larger than 60 percent of the thread diameter.
- Possibility to correct misalignment up to 0.6 times the nominal diameter
- Prevents cross threading up to 20°
- No License fee
- No special production tooling is needed
- Optimizing cycle time
